Questions

Are there any one-word .com domains left?
Yes, but not common ones. On October 29, 2026 we checked all 172,541 words of an English dictionary at the .com registry: 135,664 (78.6%) were registered and 36,877 were not. Every one of the 25,000 most common words is registered, and only 9 of the next 25,000 are free. The free ones are mostly long, rare, technical or inflected words.
What is the most common English word still available as a .com?
On October 29, 2026 it was phosphorylated.com: phosphorylated is the 36,781st most common of the 172,541 words we checked, and every more common word was registered. Next came tubercles.com, generalisations.com, cytosolic.com, immunohistochemical.com, fictionalised.com.
Are free one-word .coms sold at the normal price?
.com has no registry premiums, so a word nobody has registered sells at the ordinary .com price at any registrar. Of 200 free words we priced at Name.com, 200 sold at the normal .com price (renewing at $19.99 a year there). Names get registered every day, so check one before you count on it.

How the list was made

The words are the ENABLE word list, a public-domain English dictionary with no names, brands or abbreviations, letters a to z only, without a list of offensive words. Each word is ranked by how often it is used, from wordfreq’s English data (90,924 of the words have a frequency there; the rest are too rare and come last, A to Z). On October 29, 2026 every word was looked up at the .com registry’s own nameservers, and every word without nameservers in the registry’s registration record, since a registered name can be on hold without DNS: 805 were registered that way and are left out. A word that was registered and has since expired counts as free. Of 200 free words we priced at Name.com, 200 sold at the normal .com price (renewing at $19.99 a year there).

The list is free to reuse under CC BY-SA 4.0, the license of the frequency data it is ordered by.
